Edia develops Gradebook for CSU
Last summer, Charles Sturt University (CSU) hired Edia to develop a Gradebook tool for Sakai. This tool is still in design and will feature some features specifically designed for CSU. Based on CSU's functional design Edia has designed to develop a completely new tool, rather than making adjustments to the old design.
Some of the unique features of the tool are:
Marks and GradesThese can be entered upon which final grades can be calculated based on weight. This calculation is not mandatory, and can be overruled by the teacher. The teacher can access a statistic overview of the final grades. Grades can be released to students, and students are provided with final grades and their calculation based on university rules. Excel import/export and scalingGrades can be exported as an Excel-file, which can also be imported. Teachers can scale the final grades within this Excel sheets, based on the students' statistic data. These scaled grades can be imported via the Excel-file. Thisi is a feature specifically designed for CSU.
Link with back-endAt the end of a term grades need to be recommended on several levels, after which the grades will be automatically send to the university's central grade administration.
Open sourceThe tool will be published as Open Source software. CSU's use case is very specific, yet with a few adjustments the tool can be deployed in other educational settings.
